Meet Jason McCue, Director of Product Management for Zalando Commerce Platform Sciences. Jason manages all the product efforts for three key areas: digital insights and analytics, research, and PRSB - personalization, recommendation, search, and browse. 

Jason's teams focus on identifying the customer's problems and delivering improvements. They look at our relevant data from customer usage patterns or from interviews with customers, to better understand how we make things even easier and better for our customers to use to find the fashion, beauty, or other items that we have on the site.

We're excited to share the winners of the Beyond the Labels, (Neuro)diverse Art Contest, celebrating different ways of seeing, feeling, and making art. The art pieces were exhibited at our Summer Garden this year, for Zalandos to vote for the pieces that spoke to them 🎉

The contest was organized by our Neurodiversity Employee Resource Group, with the theme ‘SEEing ME, from another point of view’. Our Neurodiversity Employee Resource Group aims to understand the neurodiverse and neurodivergent community at Zalando and create a more inclusive and involving environment for our colleagues.

Congratulations to Melissa Gile, Anne Schydlowski, and Sandra Szepan, for creating art that was highly commended at the exhibition, winning them a prize including the Neurodiversity at Work book by Theo Smith 🏆

When farmers, homeowners, or animal lovers in Mönchengladbach need a little help from above, they ask our Logistics Security Guard Charlie. 

Charlie is an avid drone pilot who owns around 20 flying cameras. He finds his hobby all the more worthwhile when he can help save wild animals from combine harvesters, find missing dogs, or take a good picture of a construction site.

“I get excited every time I send one up,” says Charlie. “You have to keep your eyes peeled and have everything under control. I like that.”

We set ourselves two key priorities for 2023: profitable growth and investing in strategic priorities such as storytelling, an expansion of our logistics offering and new technologies. The third-quarter results that we published last night show our progress. 

Everyone at Zalando embraced our unique and winning spirit to work hard together, enabling us to deliver rising profits in the third quarter and confirming our full-year profit guidance. We did this within a challenging macroeconomic environment with high inflation and subdued consumer spending. We can’t control these factors and we saw a decline in sales and GMV this quarter. We also revised the outlook for both measures. To capture future growth, we continued working on a number of exciting projects:

Firstly, in September we launched “Stories on Zalando”, a new inspiration experience. With Stories, we redefine the way customers can discover exciting fashion trends.  

Secondly, we also started rolling out a new luxury boutique-style space in our Fashion Store for designer brands as a tailored design experience. This update makes Zalando more attractive to luxury brands and will invite the new generation of luxury customers to discover a fresh, differentiated and inspirational designer shopping experience. 

Thirdly, in October we launched the B2B brand ZEOS - short for Zalando E-commerce Operating System - enabling fashion, lifestyle brands and retailers to manage their multi-channel fulfillment business across Europe within one unified platform. 

I would like to thank all Zalandos for all their great work and commitment. I’m very proud of what we’re accomplishing together. Though the economic environment remains challenging, the current conditions are the same for everyone in our industry. And we at Zalando have the team, the talent, and the opportunity to capture the great opportunities that lie ahead of us - and also make the most of rainy conditions so we can accelerate when the sun comes out again.

As part of the Berlin Social Academy since 2017, we have continued our commitment to community engagement by offering an array of comprehensive training programs. These courses have proven instrumental in equipping Berliners with invaluable skills and knowledge, further enhancing their personal and professional growth.

This October, four of our experts at Zalando spent their annual volunteering time to host these trainings:

Tamara Mendt, Principal Data Analyst, held a session on 'Excel Graphics or Python Programming', which saw participants immersed in the world of data manipulation and coding.

The art of eloquence and confidence on the stage is a key skill to have. During her session on public speaking, Dr. Anamika Datta, Senior Product Manager, helped individuals in their journey to becoming skilled speakers.

Jigeesha Krefft, Principal Platform Experience Manager, explored the connection between gut health and overall well-being. The 'Gut-Brain Connection' course provided participants with insights into the correlation between dietary choices and personal wellness.

Regardless of the industry, the ability to deliver powerful presentations is a crucial skill. Product Designer, Manuela dos Santos, mentored participants to craft compelling presentations that resonate with and captivate audiences.

Many users only think of Google Sheets as a "fancy table". However, once they learn about functions that can process lists or arrays, how to manipulate different data types, and how to nest many functions together, their perception changes. Michal Subel, Principal Product Manager DMC Sustainability, demonstrated these capabilities.

Our Dortmund office partnered with Gympass and Techniker Krankenkasse for another health day 🤸

The teams started the day with a back fitness class led by DannyFit, who shared effective exercises to ease back pain and strengthen core muscles. Our colleagues also enjoyed freshly made smoothies from Wholey throughout the day.

Our Health Team joined the event to discuss our Zalando health offerings, covering internal and external support, sickness absence support, and fitness options. Zalandos also had the chance to schedule individual sessions with Techniker Krankenkasse to assess their back and core muscles and receive personalized training advice. 

Thanks to our Dortmund team for a day filled with activities, information, and individual support - especially back fitness!
